Midwifery Care during the Prenatal Period

Here at RBS, prenatal care is the foundation of our midwifery care. As a practice,  our midwifery clinic focuses on educating the family, coordinating wholistic, low-risk care, and preparing the family for the birth of their baby. Here's what you can expect.

Prenatal Care

Prenatal Appointments are an ideal time to get to know your midwife better and have any questions answered that you or your family may have. Generally speaking, routine appointments are anywhere from half an hour to an hour long, so that we can devote plenty of time to answering your questions and discussing your pregnancy and birth.

From the beginning of care to 28 weeks gestation, clients are scheduled for monthly appointments in which we take your vitals, discuss pregnancy and birth topics, and evaluate your baby. After 28 weeks, expect your appointments to increase in frequency to every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, at which point you will be seen every week until delivery.

During the prenatal period, RBS prioritizes the shared decision-making model of consent. In this model, the midwife will provide education to the birthing person as well as solicit the pregnant persons thoughts and desires related to the procedure or plan of action. Together, we will decide how to best move forward in a way that prioritizes your family's health and well being.

During your prenatal visit, you can expect the following:

  • General pregnancy counseling

  • Nurtition counseling

  • Physical exam (vitals and overall wellness)

  • Fetal exam (Palpation of the belly and fetal heart rate evaluation)

Prenatal Care is an integralpart of our Homebirth Services Package. If you are considering birthing in the hospital but wish for midwifery care prenatally and postpartum, please see our EASY ACCESS CLINIC information.
